MASMICRO is an 4-years EU FP6 Integrated Project for the mass-manufacture of miniature/micro-products (http://www.masmicro.net/). With an overall budget of 21.4 million euros the project is developing an integrated solution for the European miniature/micro-manufacturing industry - an integrated manufacturing facility for mass-manufacture of miniature/micro-products and a technology transfer/training package for transferring knowledge to and developing skills in industry. Research is being conducted to resolve individual fundamental and technological issues concerning the mass-manufacture of miniature/micro-products with a view to achieving several breakthroughs. New mass-micro-manufacturing facilities are being developed. These will be validated through trials on the demonstration products selected from industry. The knowledge and technologies generated will be transferred directly to the targeted industry through the projectís demonstration, training and SME take-ups programmes. The project consortium is comprised of 36 EU partners who provide expertise respectively in Design, Materials, Mechanics, Processing Technologies, Tool/Machine Fabrication, Manufacturing Automation, Metrology, Software Development, Dissemination/Exploitation and Project Management. The project has strong industrial presence with 19 partners from EU industry. The proposed talk will give an overview on the projectís objectives, methodology and programmes, and then will focus on the progress made during the first two-years of the project, as well as describe the consortium's interest in seeking external collaboration.
